Fringe Festival - Oct - Dec 2006

PRESS RELEASE: Sept 2006

Following the success of its Spring Festival, which resulted in a BBC commission and a three week critically acclaimed run of their first full production, joinedupwriters, a company committed to the development of new and innovative writing, returns with its latest festival. It will open on Sunday 8th October and run to Monday 4th December and will see nine new pieces of work staged over twelve performances at the Old Red Lion Theatre.

Jonathan Lennie’s 15-minute radio play Webern and Me was performed at the Spring Festival and will be broadcast as part of a series, Classical Assassins, which Jonathan developed through joinedupwriters. The series can be heard on Radio 4 from 6th to 10th November.

Deborah Espect’s To Gina and Mark Brown’s The Empty Chair have been commissioned as short films and are both currently in post-production.

The Spring Festival culminated in joinedupwriters’ first full production, in association with The Old Red Lion Theatre. Mark Lindow’s Perfection was selected from a previous Festival by Helen Devine, Artistic Director of The Old Red Lion Theatre and developed through joinedupwriters.

Lindow’s dialogue is peppered with wry and acute observations and he is highly skilled at weaving multiple timelines without once losing his audience’s bearings.” –Time Out

The October performances will feature:

The Box by Mark Brown
Keep off the grass. Behave yourself. Don’t look at that. Read this. Learn that. Do as you’re told. Listen to the rules and don’t ask questions. But what happens if I do ask?

Quien Es? by Alan McNaboe
Otto’s ambiguous and frightening message to Victor is the beginning of a purgatorial journey, in which Victor seems to lose his identity, but the figure emerging from the shadows is always the same.

Calling by Deborah Espect
Scott is elusive, mysterious, poetic and seemingly normal- everything David isn’t. David thinks Scott is after Rebecca, the girl he loves more than anything. But Scott wants a lot more, from both of them.
